TREVELIN – WELSH PATAGONIA

I had the chance to travel as a site inspection to the city of Esquel and Welsh Patagonia area in autumn, when we can see the trees with colorful, red and yellow leaves that make these landscapes even more beautiful than they usually are.

Los Alerces National Park is one of the highlights of the area. Declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2017, it is one of the oldest and most beautiful National Parks in Argentina. It combines a wide variety of flora, fauna, lakes and rivers. Inside, it is possible to camp or even stay at a hotel and take your time to visit the most important trails.

In Esquel city (province of Chubut) operates La Trochita or Viejo Expreso Patagónico, a train with a structure and rails that date from 1922 that now it is opened exclusively for tourism.
During this experience, I also visited Trevelin, a small town that keeps the Welsh heritage at its best. Their main features are the typical houses and its famous Welsh tea.

Following the route 259 I found the most historic places such as the school, Malacara tomb, Nant Fach windmill, Nant & Fall cascades and vineyards.

Margarita Green, one of the most important Welsh referents in this area, welcomed us in her home with a delicious meal and took us the bilingual school, the only one in this country where Spanish and Welsh languages are spoken.
