Everyone has heard the incredible story of the accident of the Uruguayan plane that was carrying 45 young rugby players to Chile, and crashed in the middle of the Andes mountains. Survivors spent 72 days under extreme conditions until they were finally rescued. These events gave rise to the book “Alive” which was also made into a movie with the same name.
This expedition program invites travelers to an unforgettable experience to visit this miraculous spot, the actual crash site, in the immensity of the Andes mountains, either hiking or on horseback. Program at Glance
4 Days / 3 Nights – Hiking or Horseback options available
Day 1 – Mendoza – Laguna El Sosneado, Puesto Araya
Guests will be picked up at Mendoza Airport or at their hotel in Mendoza Downton, very early in the morning, around 7:00 AM in order to head south to ¨Puesto Araya¨ in Laguna El Sosneado, where they will have the afternoon free to enjoy the area, and get ready for the adventure.
The expedition guide will be waiting there with all the logistics coordinated and the provisions ready for the journey, starting on the following day, when the adventure will start.
After midday, we will prepare the campsite and there will be a key orientation meeting to present the activities and the guides that will host and lead this amazing journey.

Day 2: El Barroso Base Camp
Guests will be waking up very early to enjoy a fine breakfast and get ready to start their way to El Barroso Base Camp. It will be a stunning hiking day of about 7 hours, to then cross the Atuel River. Later on the day, we will arrive at our camp site and get ready to enjoy a relaxing afternoon to enjoy the place, ending up with a recomforting dinner. Overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Valle de Las Lágrimas & Cross of Memory
Today will be the longest walking day of estimate 12 hours, starting with an early breakfast at the camp. Once ready, we will leave with the aim of reaching the Glacier at Valle de las Lagrimas. This important day has the greatest goal on the horizon and is to arrive at the place where the fuselage of the fallen plane is located. We will observe numerous offerings, flags and epitaphs next to the “Cross of Memory”. A moment of silence will be given in homage of the victims surrounded by the immensity of the Andes, to then explore the area. Lunch will be followed by a well-deserved break to crown the incredible feat done in the past days, and to later descend once more to El Barroso Base Camp. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 4: Way back to El Puesto Araya
On the very last day, and after enjoying breakfast, guests will walk about 6 hours, back to ¨El Puesto Araya¨ for lunch and then continue to Mendoza, grateful for having shared an experience that will surely stay Alive! in our hearts and minds forever. Drop off at selected hotel. End of services.
