The next time you’re in Argentina’s capital, here’s where—and what—to eat.
Travelers have long raved about Buenos Aires’s roster of European cafes and traditional parrillas, the latter of which serves some of the best steaks in the world. But until recently, there wasn’t much culinary diversity to speak of in this otherwise cosmopolitan destination.

In recent years, however, a new generation of restaurants offering flavors from Asia, the Middle East, and various corners of Latin America have added a hearty dose of multiculturalism to the city’s food scene; and local chefs are increasingly showcasing overlooked homegrown ingredients, redefining Argentine cuisine along the way. Adventurous eaters rejoice.

21% VAT will be reimbursed to foreign visitors on hotel rates in Argentina.
As from January 2, 2017, foreign tourists will be reimbursed the 21% VAT for accommodation. This measure aims at a greater flow of travelers, greater income from foreign exchange and the creation of new jobs.
The estimated impact, after a year of application, is of 95 thousand new tourists, with an income of more than 70 million dollars, and is expected to generate almost 8 thousand new direct and indirect jobs.

“The legislation we are promoting includes all contracts in the area of accommodation of non-resident tourists and includes both direct purchases and via travel agencies. We aim that the entire chain of Argentine tourist value is competitive and of quality, “said Santos.
The VAT refund on accommodation services will be applied to people who can prove their residence abroad by means of their passport or ID card and who pay by a credit card issued abroad or a bank transfer originated outside the boundaries of Argentina.
The hotels and properties must be registered in the AFIP as accommodation services. And the agencies must also be registered and qualified by the National Tourism Ministry.
The VAT rebate proposes the regulation of a system which will improve competitiveness, as foreign tourists will automatically pay a lower rate for the accommodation service in Argentina.

Furthermore, this measure facilitates the inspection, since it is based on the use of electronic invoicing, facilitating the control of the sector by AFIP and covers the whole of the accommodation commercial chain and incorporates the direct purchase by the tourist.
The implementation was registered in the Resolucion Conjunta General 3971 of the Federal Public Revenue Administration and the National Ministry of Tourism.

The National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) authorized the airline LAN Argentina to operate the routes of Santiago de Chile and San Pablo from Aeroparque, which had been requested by the company in 2010 and that the ANAC itself had dismissed with a resolution in 2011 .
Since the resolution 346, which in March 2010 determined the internationalization of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, the different companies that at that time operated to and from those destinations from Ezeiza, requested permission to operate from Aeroparque regional routes, mainly to Brazil and Chile .

Thus, Aerolíneas, LAN Argentina and Austral Líneas Aéreas, which were later joined by Gol, TAM and LAN Airlines (LAN Chile) began their operations in the neighboring countries, allowing also the connection in Aeroparque of the domestic flights, saving time to the passengers when avoiding the connecting transfer to Ezeiza.
However, on December 6, 2011, the ANAC issued resolution 994, which terminated internationalization for LAN Argentina. As of that date, the company which is based in our country, but with Chilean capital, had to return operations of these routes from Ezeiza.
Later, Alejandro Granados, head of ANAC, argued that Aeroparque was very congested, but a week earlier he had authorized Austral on new regional routes. The measure did not affect LAN Chile, which could continue operating to Santiago from Aeroparque without problems.

After the change of government on December 10, 2015, LAN Argentina submitted to ANAC a repeal request of the resolution that did not allow them to fly to Chile and Brazil. It was finally decided to repeal resolution 994 and establish again the internationalization of the Aeroparque for LAN Argentina.

The National Institute of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR) launches a program to promote Argentinean tourism and local cuisine by boosting a gastronomic tourism promotion program.
Alfajores, empanadas , Malbec and “parrillas” will reach every part of the World!
The Tourism Ministry has announced a new plan called “Cocin.Ar” — a play on words between cocinar (“to cook”) and .ar (the web domain for Argentina) — to map out the various food specialties found in each region of the country and promote gastronomic or culinary tourism: the exploration of food as the driving force behind travel.
The aim of the project is to revalue the cultural-gastronomic history of Argentina, develop cultural tourism and position Argentine cuisine at international levels.
Gustavo Santos, Minister of Tourism spoke extensively about this plan; the first step will be creating a “forum for the planning and development of gastronomic tourism in each province.” The first meeting of culinary experts will take place in the Province of Catamarca. Then, “regional reports, covering strategies, programs and projects to be developed will be drawn.” The third phase will end with “the formulation of the National Development Plan 2017-2027 for Gastronomic Tourism, which will target the development of the Gastronomic Tourism Map of Argentina.”

The map will allow tourists to pick affordable packages that include transportation, accommodation and tours. Santos explained that these different routes will improve not just tourism in each region but other areas such as infrastructure, roads and hotels. Other government bureaus such as the Ministries of Science, Technology and Education will also be involved in developing the project.
“Argentina has great culinary diversity, which is reaching new worldwide heights with chefs like Mauro Colagreco and Germán Martitegui. We want to continue that trend, helping young cheffs with extraordinary potential.”
As part of the Gastronomic Plan, the ministry will provide postgraduate degrees in Argentine cuisine. The program will be 2 year long, and will include both practical and theoretic elements, with the hope that a “new generation of chefs” will promote Argentine cuisine around the world.

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA is evaluating plans for a base in Buenos Aires with flights from cities including Oslo, London, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona as the next phase of its long-haul, low-cost expansion strategy.
Services to the Argentinian capital could start in 12 months if government permissions are granted, Bjorn Kjos, the airline’s chief executive officer, said in an interview in Cordoba, adding that the Latin American country’s second-biggest city also has the potential to become a domestic hub.
Norwegian Air has ambitious plans for extending the low-cost travel model to inter-continental flights using a fleet of Boeing Co. 787s that will swell to 42 by 2020. It’s also adding 30 extended-range Airbus Group SE A321neo aircraft that could be used on shorter long-haul routes by 2022, and has even said that smaller 737 Max jets, of which it has 100 on order, might operate some trans-Atlantic services.
